Washington, DC — National Defense Lab today announced the launch of MNEMOSYNE, an AI-powered cognitive terrain intelligence platform designed to help leaders understand, assess, and anticipate threats within the information environment.

As modern conflict increasingly targets perception, trust, and decision-making rather than infrastructure alone, MNEMOSYNE was developed to address a growing visibility gap in the human domain. While cyber and physical threats are well instrumented, cognitive threats often emerge and propagate without structured analysis or early warning.

MNEMOSYNE brings analytical clarity to this space by examining how narratives form, evolve, and influence behavior across populations and institutions. The platform analyzes open-source information signals and contextual indicators to identify emerging narratives, map influence pathways, and surface cognitive stress points that may impact societal stability and strategic decision-making.

“The need for MNEMOSYNE came directly from conversations with leaders who were being asked to make high-consequence decisions without reliable insight into how the information environment was shaping behavior,” said National Defense Lab. “We saw a clear gap between what leaders know and what they need to know about the cognitive terrain. MNEMOSYNE was built to close that gap.”

Importantly, MNEMOSYNE is designed as a defensive and analytical capability. It does not generate messaging, target audiences, or conduct influence or persuasion operations. Instead, it focuses on situational awareness, risk assessment, and strategic foresight, enabling leaders to understand conditions before action is taken.

The project reflects National Defense Lab’s broader mission to develop advanced technologies that support responsible governance, national resilience, and long-term security in emerging domains of competition. MNEMOSYNE complements the Lab’s existing work in AI governance, intelligence analysis, and decision support while extending its focus into the cognitive and informational dimensions of modern conflict.
